Have you read any Norbert Elias? You might be interested in his book The Society of Individuals. In this book he examines the interrelationship between the individual and society and concludes that society is the the plural of the individual. There is no 'I' without the social. The 'I' and the 'we' arise, paradoxically, together. If you enjoy this you might then go on to his seminal work, The Civilising Process.

I am recommending these books because you are coming very much from a cognitive, individualistic perspective, according to your own definition, informed by Kant. Just as an antidote you might be interested in someone who had taken a Hegelian perspective interested in the dialectic of self and other.

Just as an invitation to broaden your thinking...
